My main beams remain on.

Ignition switch and light switch off - main beams on

Remove fuse #1 - main meam remains on

Pull 8-pin connector at bonnet - main beams off.

Any suggestions?

Visual on wiring harness shows no problems.

Finaly found the problem. It appears that when I was chasing down an ignition fault I put a fuse not in the pronged holders but in the space above. (yes it fits). This has the effect of turning two circuits into one resulting in very strange symptoms.

I checked with some club members and they had done the same thing at one time.

Note to self: wear glasses and use a flash light.

Trim...yeah.....one of the reasons I asked if he'd done anything to the car just before this happened. If the pushrod has worn at an angle, or the tip broken off, and the end of the lever is jammed against it.....all sorts of things, but it's probably in the flash-to-pass, electrical or mechanical.

I am not out in the shop yet today. However, my first thought would be "flash to pass", stuck, shorted internally, melted.
Just a guess......but that bypasses ignition switch and headlamp switch, does it not?

My first question would be what did you just do to the car?
Repair/replace/adjust anything?
