HI! Doug,
You must be one of the most Forum informed Jag owner of any List, I hope your documenting your engine re- build, photographs too ?
Use the later ser 3 XJ6 Water Pump with the larger sturdier bearing, the improved pump is top's, you need to use your V Belt Pulley fitted in the correct place to align with other V Belt Pulleys.
You do not need to worry about the timing cover differences all 4.2 pumps with the large Impellers interchange, the earlier 4.2 Ser 1,E Type/ 420 Sedan pump with smaller but same size impeller as the 3.4/3.8 "DO NOT FIT" this pump to the later Ser 2 E Type or XJ6 Timing Cover, the impeller is too small and one will experience cavitation and an overheated engine.
One can use the later pump on the early T/cover by relieving the cover with a die grinder, go careful and it will not take too long.
