The trunk on my 97 XK8 won't latch shut. I've tried different combinations of pushing the trunk release button, the valet and putting the key in the trunk lock and nothing is helping. I've slammed it down hard and that doesn't work either. I looked in the hole where the latch is and can't see anything that looks physically broken.
I don't know what was physically broken or worn, but I had the same thing happen, though at first the "boot" was hard to shut, then eventually almost impossible to shut. The entire latch mechanism was eventually replaced under warranty.

Thanks for the feedback. My car is out of warranty and I'm seeing if I can fix it myself. You can get latch mechanisms pretty cheap on eBay and, when I looked inside the boot area, there doesn't seem like there is much to it...just remove the old part and put in a new one.
