The plastic socket around the ball has cracked and mirror drops down. Is anyone aware of a place to repair... other than replacing entire unit? How is the mirror removed... it is not obvious? thanks

David,
From your description, I would guess your problem is with the mirror MOTOR and not the mirror assembly itself. The mirror glass can be removed rather easily, then three small torx bolts retain the motor. Use rubber gloves or slightly dampen your fingers, then sort of slide the glass to the outside of the vehicle, then pull the outside edge of the glass rearward. That releases the left side of the glass, then gently unhook the right side from the motor by moving it to the right. There are two motors, one for memory seats/mirrors, and one without memory.
HNA3066AB -- Memory
HNA3064AA -- Non-memory
Good luck!

I'm sure it is the socket as small pieces of the plastic have come off and there is a metal ring that fit over the socket to create the friction on the ball... and the metal ring no longer will stay in place... so likely will need to replace entire unit. Mirrors are available on ebay at reasonable price... how do you remove entire unit?
Appreciate your taking the time to try to help me out...

David,
Wow, I certainly mis-read your first note. Yes, it sure sound like the mirror assembly itself has broken. Below is a link to a document that has the procedures to change your mirror.
Good luck!

s: sorry.... now I can see why you are confused. Not a door mirror... but center inside rearview mirror. I've take older style mirrors off that use small set screw... I don't see how to remove this mirror.
thanks David

Wow, talk about Mars and Venus.....
I know of no way to repair one of those mirrors.
Ok, this is tricky, and not for the faint of heart. There is ALWAYS a risk of breaking the windscreen when removing and replacing that mirror. You need a small to medium PLASTIC hammer to get it off and on. First remove the overhead light and door opener console for better access. Then remove the cover on the mirror stem near the roof line. Sit in the passenger seat and contort yourself so you can pull downward and forward on the stem [at the lowest point], then use the PLASTIC hammer to tap gently but repeatedly on the stem, the higher the better. Keep tapping, and it should begin to slide down the glass. Once it is off, you'll see how it attaches, it is sort of hard to describe in print. To put it back on, is basically the reverse. The trick is to have the extra push or pull of the free hand so the hammer isn't doing ALL the work.
If all goes well, the screen won't break. I've done this a bunch, and I've still broken a couple.
WEAR SAFETY GLASSES!
Good luck!
