I have found the VIN (number only without any prefix or suffix)stamped into the metal panel located in front of the radiator.
My car did not come with a VIN plate in the engine compartment.
I understand the VIN is also stamped in the rear of the car. I thought under the bumper. I cannot find anything. I did find three numbers stamped under the trunk striker plate. Does not appear to be related to the VIN.
