With the recent addition of Bradley Bryan, our first grandchild, we are considering giving up the XK8 for a 2005 S Type R so we can fit a carseat. The only concern I have is the actual gas mileage I could expect, since the XK8 now gives me an average of 22 mpg on each tank of mixed driving.
Could someone please give me an idea of the actual mileage they experience relative to the EPA ratings of 16/24? Thanks!
I owned a 2006 S-type "R" for 2 years and experience an average of 19 to 20mpg. That was broken down as around 18 city and 25 highway. Now of course the mileage you will get depends on how much foot you put into that supercharged engine. I recommend that you also look at the non-super charged car with the V8. Better mileage and less expensive to maintain. Tires and brakes are much more costly on the "R". But there is nothing like the feel you get from the "R".
I must also tell you that the backward facing car seat required by law for an infant is a tight fit in the back of the S-type. Usually the front seat has to be moved far forward to fit. Take the seat with you and try it before you buy it. I can't remember the weight or age requirement to be able to go to front facing seats.
