2007 JCNA Challenge Championship, July 31st - August 4th
- Hosted by the Jaguar Club of Greater Indiana-

- Details and Updates -

7/24/07 : Final update with many little details... click here to open word file.

The printed and online registration form cites July 17 as the cut-off date for pre-registration and has a block adding $25 for registering afterwards. That would suggest that someone wishing to enter the concours on the Circle in downtown Indy on Friday, August 3, could register as late as that morning. The purpose of this email is to advise all concerned that July 17th is also the last date to register for the concours as commitments have to be finalized with the city, the morning staging site and the Indianapolis Metro Police Dept. well before August 3rd. Anyone who does show up that morning without having registered for the concours by July 17 will be invited to park their vehicle with the others in the Display category.

Further, anyone wishing to sign up for one or more "individual tickets" involving a meal off the online form will be at risk if they do not sign up by July 24 (even if they pay the late fee), as our contracts with most venues require a 7-day notice regarding the number of servings to prepare.

One more word of clarification... if anyone plans to participate in any of the Tuesday through Thursday lunch events, they need to buy "the 5-day package."

In summary, if you plan to show a car for points, register NLT July 17th. If you plan to attend a Thursday and/or Friday meal event, register NLT July 24th. Doing so will enable the host club to coordinate/expedite the entire process and leave the participants to enjoy the occasion.

Concours Deadline (posted 6/26/07)

Please note that the deadline to enter the JCC concours in a judged division is July 17th or 180 Jaguars registered (whichever comes first). Addiitonal cars will be placed in Display only

Parking (June 2007)

Here’s some info that elaborates upon some details that will be in the next edition of the Jaguar Journal. This format may facilitate forwarding it to others with whom you have been coordinating convoy plans, esp. if your next newsletter has just been released or “put to bed.”) Be sure to read the 2nd email, esp. item 5 – a new feature. Tuesday on the track is sold out already.

Note that the Jaguar Challenge Championship (JCC) follows the Brickyard 400 on Sunday, July 29. NASCAR fans may want to make a full week of it, esp. since the Crowne Plaza has been extending our rate of $109 to the Sat. before our JCC (and may continue to do so when space is available). FYI - The possibility of Sunday being a rain day and the race being run on Monday is why our slalom is at the track on Thurs - instead of preceding the rally as in prior years.

Folks bringing trailers will have some options:

Plan A is to park as indicated in item 3 below, i.e. on campus at IU-PUI with a parking permit costing $6/day. The advantage to this location is that 1) you’d already have your car parked at the Fri morning staging location, prior to the motorcycle escort to the Circle, thus saving the drive from another location, and 2) campus police will be monitoring the lot. Current plans with the city call for 2 waves of escorted cars departing for the Circle – the first at 8:30 AM and the 2nd at 9 AM.

Plan B is to park in a surface lot at some place other than the host hotel – a motel/hotel of your choosing, esp. if you wish to accumulate “points” at your favorite Road Warrior motel. That may be “free” parking but as indicated above, you’d need to drive to the IU-PUI parking lot for the escorted trip to the Circle Fri morning.

After dropping off your trailer you are welcome to park in the underground parking lot where the clearance for SUVs and PUs is 6’4” – shouldn’t be a problem unless you have oversize mudding tires and a luggage rack on your cab……..Jags should park on the south end of the 2nd level but the north end is large enough for you.

The image below illustrates where the Plan A parking lot is relative to the host hotel and Circle.

Feel free to contact me for any Qs you may have. I wanted to get this info to you so you (and I) would have plenty of time to work out any other issues you can think of before more folks with trailers sign in. Feedback is welcome, so as to benefit the others.

Best regards,

Cliff Burk

May Update

As Pres of the host club for the JCNA Challenge Championship (JCC) in Indy between July 31 and Aug 4, I wanted to personally provide you an update to some info that was printed on page 18 of the March-April edition of the Jag Journal. That overview and Candy Williams' article on page 20-23, has helped to virtually fill the block of rooms at the Crowne Plaza, our host hotel, well before the mid-June date when JCC registration costs increase. Folks still planning to attend will be accommodated at the Crowne Plaza if space is available or they will be referred to the Omni hotel diagonally across the plaza from the CP. That would enable those registrants to utilize the same underground parking lot, car washing facilities, and security service as those staying at the CP. We understand that some others are making their own arrangements. Spaces remain for those wishing to show their car on concours Friday.

In the past 2 months I’ve heard remarks like, If I had known so much was being planned I would’ve budgeted more family vacation time for this. At the other extreme, I’ve also heard; What’s this all about? And; How does one register? These Qs suggest that folks aren’t reading their Jag Journal or that we need to mention this (as more than just a date on the calendar) in a club newsletter. Folks who plan to convoy with others would welcome this info. People can register using the form in the middle of the Jan-Feb edition of the Jaguar Journal or by going online to www.jcna.com and clicking on the JCC link.

In addition, I can offer the following "insider tips" for your consideration:

1. Big clue – If calling the national Crowne Plaza toll free number for reservations as indicated on the JCNA website, use terms like “Jaguar Club convention” or “JCNA convention” or “Jaguar Challenge Championship” to get the discounted rate without complications. Be patient. Don’t expect the clerk in “central reservations” to know all of our key words and abbreviations. Similarly, if asking the local Crowne Plaza reps about parking info, don’t be surprised if they refer you to their valet parking service/rates. (See next item.)

2. Parking and security arrangements have been made with the Pam Am Plaza underground parking lot. (See next item for parking options for trailers.) At this point, underground parking for about 200 cars has been reserved directly across from the entrance to the Crowne Plaza hotel. (The first level is leased parking.) We’ll be on the second of three levels in a section reserved for Jaguars nearest the elevators. Folks asking the CP about parking will likely be advised of *their* valet service at $18/day. Folks registering for the 4-day package will be able to procure a parking pass for $50 in the Hospitality Suite. That’s a savings of at least $22 and allows 50 in/out privileges from the underground garage. (For reference purposes, daily parking is hourly or $18/day in the garage.) Folks NOT buying “the $315 package” can expect to pay for parking as required.

3. Trailers can be parked at the IU-PUI parking lot at Lansing St. and New York St. with a campus parking permit that costs $6/day. The Indiana Univ–Purdue Univ Indianapolis campus, home of the Jaguars basketball team, has offered us use of their 600+ car lot. This site will be the staging site Friday morning for the express motorcycle escort to the Circle concours about 11-12 blocks away via 2 one-way streets. Some trailer owners may wish to make arrangements at another nearby motel that may have room for their trailer, e.g. the Marriott Courtyard downtown or the Adam’s Mark, closer to the airport, about 15-20 minutes away.

4. The JCNA website now includes a narrated slide show first provided at the Houston AGM in March.

5. Anyone interested in driving a real Indy race car on Thursday, August 2, can arrange to do so by contacting www.indyracingexperience.com and paying $399. (This is not sponsored by JCNA.) If 20 or more Indy Jagnuts sign up, you’ll get a $49 rebate. After some training that morning and getting suited up, you’ll have a chance to go as fast as you choose for 4 laps with a pace car. Allow 2.5 – 3 hours for this option.

6. Any experienced racers interested in participating on Saturday at the Putnam Park Road Course must contact Lee Grimes of 100-Speed.com NLT June 15th. He has been gracious enough to hold 10 spots in his field of 50 cars and his Wait List is growing as he awaits commitments from the Jaguar community. (This too is NOT a JCNA sponsored event.)

7. Most registrants are signing the liability release on the bottom of the registration sheet. That’s good; but a few who are registering online will have to sign that sheet when they check in, if they do not follow-up with a signed form earlier. (One was astute enough to do that, although he was concerned about being counted/billed 2X.)

8. If using your PC and Google Earth software to research the vicinity of the setting/locale of some events, enter the following ZIP codes to “fly” to the event and view an aerial image:

-·for the Crowne Plaza and Monument Circle, enter 46225 (the CP is adjacent (southeast) to the white RCA dome)
-·for New Castle and the Foster Collection, enter 47362
-·for Conner Prairie, enter 46038 (and then go NNW about 1.5”)
- for the IMS, enter 46222
- for the Putnam Park Road Course, enter 46135 (and then go SE about 2”)

Feel free to contact me if you have any Qs.
