Ford handed Brazilian GP Victory, Jaguar Racing Looses Points! by Pascal Gademer, South Florida Jaguar Club |
|||||
This it the 176th F1 victory for a Ford Cosworth engine, the first since the European GP at the Nurburgring in 1999 when a Steward Ford driven by Johnny Herbert crossed the finish line at the end of another chaotic race. Jaguar Racing and Mark Webber are the biggest loosers in this change, loosing their 7th place and 2 championship points since Mark was in 9th place at the end of lap 54. McLaren driver Kimi Raikonnen, who himself scored his maiden victory 2 weeks earlier in Malaysia, still leads the Drivers Championship by sees his lead reduced by 2 points, which could turn out crucial if the 2003 season goes to wire as expected. Ironically, if Mark Webber had not crashed, it is unlikely that Fisichella would have made it to the end of race as his Cosworth engine erupted into flames when he pulled into parc ferme at the end of the shortened race! For Jaguar Racing, the pressure has been increased not only because they are one of the only three teams with no points so far but mostly because they use the same engine as underfuned privateer Jordan! How long will it be before Ford decides that pouring millions of dollars into Jaguar Racing is not as profitable as selling engines to Eddie Jordan...
