We have lost Karen Miller, one of the biggest single contributors to the growth and development of JCNA. For more than 30 years, Karen worked on establishing rules and procedures, organizing and managing events and maintaining JCNA relations with Jaguar Cars. As Associate Editor of Jaguar Journal she was always knowledgeable about affiliate club activities. Not only involved with administration, she and her husband campaigned an E-type in concours, winning the Class 4 championship. Later she switched to vintage racing in her XK 120. As a member of Empire Division, Karen was a delegate to the AGM for the first time in 1971 and attended 23 straight AGMs. By 1975, she had become a member of the new JCNA National Concours Committee. She was co-author with Tom Hendricks of JCNAs first concours rulebook and was involved in some way with the preparation of every succeeding edition. She actively supported the creation of the JCNA Rally Program, and arranged for the first Rally Rule Book to be written. Karen chaired the Concours Committee for several years in the time period when the committee was JCNAs only official body. She continued as a member when the committee became the National Administrative Committee. She was elected director-at-large in 1991 and served as Northeast Region Director from 1992-1994. She was also an original member of the Business Committee. She was the JCNA representative on the Jaguar Daimler Archive Council. Among her accomplishments:
She was the ultimate volunteer. Please use this form to leave a few words for her family. Fill out your name, type your message and click on submit when done. Please click once, a confirmation will be displayed when submitted. |
Dear Ed,
I was very sad to learn of Karen's death in your card yesterday.
Karen's father and my mother where first cousins. Growing up our
families spent lots of time together. I recall her sweet sixteen
party, and their move to Hawthorne many years ago. I am sorry that Karen
and I did not get to see much of each other after her mother died.
I know my family wishes you good health in the years to come.
Sincerely,
Bill Gooth

I have several of Karen's beautiful plate that are one of a series of uniquely Canadian fine bone china collectible plates, depicting Canada's Provincial and Territorial Floral Emblems and wondering the value of my collection. Any information you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Maureen (pmhobart@juno.com)

Karen was always fun to be with. She showed me the way up Mount Equinox, the way round Lyme Rock and Bridghampton. I watched her come in third to a D type's first and a C type's second at Watkins Glen, those were good times.
She went to a lot of trouble getting me the 'birth certificate'of my car. This car is the thirteenth XJ6, and this certificate has a place of honour beside a photo that Karen took of the car on Mount Equinox.
Thank you for the good times, Karen.

Somehow I just learned of Karen's passing. It seems just yesterday I was working with her on a Heritage Certificate for my Jaguar. Through the years she has assisted me in the highest and most profesional manner. I have enjoyed her many photographs documenting Jaguar events. My prayers are with you in this dificult time. She will be missed greatly but her wonderful work and many friends carry her touch.

What a great loss. I am so sorry to learn this news.
Karen was always so upbeat and ready to help. One example that I remember happened about 10 years ago when I just acquired my XK120 and it was running a bit rough... I brought it over to some local friends who Karen happened to be visiting with at the time. In the space of 5 minutes, Karen orchestrated an immediate solution (which included roping in the expertise of her husband Ed) and the faulty plug was found and replaced. Just a small glimpse of her tireless energy, passion, and selfless service to others.
She will certainly be missed.

May we express our deepest sympathy in your great loss.
We also will miss her very much.

While I was doing some catching up on some of my past e-mails, I came across a newsletter that I hadn't read before. One of the articles was about Karen Miller. I was both shocked and saddened to hear about her family's loss. All I knew is that Karen wasn't receiving mine or other newsletters any longer. I had no idea that she was ill. Please accept my sincerest sympathy on behalf of all the members of the San Antonio Jaguar Club. Karen was always there to help and guide us when our club was new and we appreciate the kind of enthusiasm and knowledge she brought to JCNA and SAJC. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her husband, family & friends.
Fran Curran, San Antonio Jaguar Club's Editor
My deepest sympathies go out to you, although I only spoke with Karen a couple of times on the telephone, she was someone who I would have like to have known better, God Bless, Art
Art Dickenson, President. Pacific Jaguar.
To the family of Karen Miller,
The Jaguar Club of Pittsburgh joins with other JCNA clubs around the country in mourning the loss of Karen Miller. She was indeed a pleasure to work with, whether she was helping to track down Jaguar archives information or assisting club members in submitting articles and photos to Jaguar Journal. Her enthusiasm for her work and her dedication to Jaguar cars will not be forgotten by the many friends she touched with her kindness. She is already missed.

It was truly an honor and privilege to work with Karen on the Leaper Program, at the Middleburg, VA event, and the luncheon with Paul Skilliter. Always the consummate volunteer. She will be deeply missed by all of us.
Our thoughts and prays are with you, Ed, and your family.

On behalf of my wife and myself I would like to offer our condolences to Karen's husband and family at this very sad time.
I had the privelege of speaking and working with Karen whilst I was employed by Jaguar in Coventry.
Karen will be irreplacable, indeed her commitment and knowledge will be missed by the entire Jaguar community.
A very sad day.
Fraternaly and sincerey, John,Sue Scobbie.

Karen helped me with build certificates and questions of authenticity several times. Her personal attention was much appreciated. I am deeply shocked to learn of her passing. I am so sorry to hear the bad news and extend my deepest sympathy to you, her family. From Dr. Gerald A. Mitchell, Jr., Kingsport, Tennessee.

I regret once again that JCNA did not heap the official recognition upon Karen that she so much deserved. But as I read these first memories of her and the way she helped and encouraged so many of us, I see that these unofficial Thank-Yous are much more important. May we all pursue our lives as enthusiastically and generously as she did.
Judy Ferring
Absolutely devastating news. JCNA and the Jaguar hobby has lost not one of the, but THE most dedicated, talented and enthusiastic supporter we have ever seen and are ever likely to see again. No trophy or award would ever be good enough for this pioneer.
Thank you Karen, for everything. My only regret is that we did not get to work more together.
My condolences to her husband, her family and many friends, to her great friend Mike Cook, and to the Empire Division.

Unfortunately, my only connection with Karen was through her reputation as being helpful and enthusiastic. She will long be remembered for her contributions and assistance to others. The Jaguar community is deeply indebted to her.

To the family of Karen Miller
In my mind -- and in my heart -- Karen Miller is as much part of the Jaguar experience as any of the immediately recognizable icons of the marquee. Just uttering the name Karen Miller immediately brought a commanding and knowledgeable authority to whatever was spoken next. Yes, Karen helped me, too ... as she did countless other enthusiasts. She helped because she cared enough to. She cared about the Jaguars but, moreso, she cared also about the people who shared her passion for these almost-living things. Sadly, the caring -- and love -- that she gave to her family is ended now, too, and the greatest loss regrettably is suffered by them. To all of Karen's family, I extend my sincerest and kindest condolences. Our prayers are with you and with Karen.

IM SORRY OUR LOSS
LARRY MILES
Karen helped me a lot when I was a "''new" Jaguar owner. She helped me chase down serial numbers on my "E" type, and was instrumental in getting my JDHT squared away.
She will be missed.
LLoyd Nolan
While I never knew Karen personally, her name came up often on our e-type list anytime anyone had a question about the JDHT.
I know that she was a tireless researcher who gave many hours of her time to a cause that she enjoyed. The entire Jaguar community was blessed by her presence.
Our prayers go out to her family and friends.

I was deeply saddened to read of Karen's passing. She was always available and willing to walk a neophyte like me through the maze of JCNA.
Through her works, she has touched us all and JCNA and the affiliated clubs are much better now because of her efforts. She will be
missed by all of us. I am just sorry we did not know of her illness as I am sure we would all liked to have sent her notes of encouragement.
Len Wheeler, Jaguar Club of Southern Arizona
I would like to offer my most sincere condolences on your loss. I was lucky enough to have dealt directly with Karen on two occasions, and I was so impressed by her helpful and kind spirit that I felt I had a friend at Jaguar.
She will be missed by many.

Karen will be missed by many. Sometimes the business world and just daily life can be a grind and many of us go to our collector cars to find some joy amid the madness. Karen was always there when I was researching a car and her work and great attitude brought me joy on some otherwise rotten days. My prayers and sympathy are with you all.
Most Sincerely

I was privileged to know Karen only briefly - through a few phone calls regarding a Heritage Certificate for my E-type. She impressed me immediately with her enthusiasm, knowledge of the cars, and she shared the fact that she and her husband owned two E-types, of which she spoke with great interest. I read her articles and submissions to the various publications with great interest, as she was universally respected in her area of expertise.
The Jaguar community will miss her greatly.
I am sure that your memories of her will sustain you at this time.

My most sincere condolences on your loss. I didn't know Karen personally but her name was always held in high regard in the Jaguar circles I travel in and I do a lot of that. She took the time to write me a personal note when I applied for my JDHT certificate. Above and beyond was my opinion of her.

The wonderful Karen Miller was an awesome force in our circles. What in the world will we do without her??? Having lost my dear husband quite recently, I can understand how empty you must feel as part of her family left behind. I wish you only happy memories of the good times, and the comfort of knowing she is still with you inside. When I get really low, sometimes driving my 71 E-Type helps. ;-) Thanks to Karen, I have it's beautiful framed "birth" (heritage) certificate on my garage wall.
God bless and Godspeed, Karen. Thank you for being so giving.
Your friend in central Florida,

I was just checking the JCNA web site and was shocked to see Karens obituary. You can rest assured that she was held in the highest respect by all that came in contact with her. I will cherish the photo of the two of us taken at an AGM. She will be in my prayers.

Karen was someone special in both of our lives. We always enjoyed her company, there were so many times when her
knowledge and enthusiasm showed the way. Karen will be sorely missed by us. Karen, Rest in Peace.
