The message screen below the speedometer shows the Left Front turn signal is not functioning, also indicated by a rapidly flashing left turn indicator arrow, then the signal begins to function again, the failure message closes and the turn signal arrow operates normally. I don't know how consistent this problem is as it has only happened once, so far.
Can someone offer ideas or solutions?

The connector the turn signal bulb sits in gets corroded. I have had several S cars and my current 2006 just had that problem, as did my others S Jags. You can try to clean the turn signal bulb socket, or some people say you can cover the damaged connectors with aluminum foil and try that ... You can purchase a USED turn signal socket and do it yourself in about 15 min, and you don't really have to be 'mechanically' inclined. I changed mine in a few minutes, put the hood down and was back on the road!
