This car used Type F trans fluid, sometimes labled as Type FA, Type G, and who knows what else.

Old timers will know this as Ford type fluid, used before the GM fluid (Dexron) and Ford ATF sort of merged into Dexron/Mercon. Nowdays GM and Fords all use Dexron/Mercon. Just don't let some counter jockey convince you that Dexron/Mercon is what you want if you're seeking Type F.

Since few cars use this type of ATF any more, it can be hard to find. Here in the Atlanta area, it is available from NAPA stores, labeled as Type FA.

It is worth noting that the difference between Dexron and Ford type fluids has to do with the friction coefficient. Some Jaguar owners use Dexron in their SIII cars and claim it gives softer shifts IIRC.

But the Ford ATF is what Jaguar recommended (usually listed in the specs as Type G BTW).
