Sounds like it might be a good modification. I had the opportunity to drive a new Ferrari California recently and was awed at the exhaust sound and wondered how they achieved this. One would think that a double overhead cam V8 should be able to sound the same or at least similar. It make sense to remove everything behind the single large muffler. I might just give it a go. One can always replace everything if it doesn't work out.
P.S. Sold my 64 E Type a couple of years ago.
