My 1999 XJR cruise control will not work. I purchased the car from my brother-in-law who said it worked before I bought it from him. I let a friend who detailed the car borrow it one day and he said it worked. But it's never worked for me. Could it be a fuse? If so, which fuse and which fuse box would it be (in)? Should there be a notifying indication on the instrument panel when I activate the cruise button? If so, that isn't working either.

I also have frequent notifications on my message center that seem to be erroneous. Such as engine failsafe mode (I've noticed no difference in performance when it illuminates. And it resets when I turn the car off and restart.), tail lamp failure (all tail lamps including all bulbs in the third tail light are working). I've been told that the brake light switch in the brake pedal could be the cause of erroneous notifications such as these. Does anybody have any advise or experience with these type of problems?

George, as for my membership, I paid $60.00 sometime ago for membership. I have not received any invoices for renewal dues. I have enjoyed the website where we share our information. If I am in arrears I'm happy to become current. Or can I just stay on the mailing list without renewal? I don't attend any events. I don't go to meetings. I just enjoy the communications here between Jaguar lovers. If I need to pay renewal dues I'm happy to do so. Since you are keen on my descrepancy perhaps you could advise me on the best way to become current.. William mentioned the fact that there is some complication to become current. I live in Louisville KY and thought I was a member of area 51 in good standing. If I am not then I should correct that.. As I recall, "Area 51" is my local district.

And, William, thank you for your advise to assure that the switch is defective before replacing it. I intend to take your advise.

William in fact you are right but a quick e mail to the web master will fix that. I am sorry you have not been a member so perhaps you should write him also. In your case you were a member though.

As far as the switch I think you will see I suggested he "Check" the switch. He decided to simply replace.

George, it's impossible for a user of this site to update one's "profile" to indicate that you are no longer a JCNA member. In my case, I haven't been a JCNA member for the past two years. Your concern is something that must be handled by the JCNA and/or the people that administer this site, not by individuals like Jay and I who do not have the ability to comply with your request.

Jay, before you spend $85.00 on a new brake light switch, if I were you I would first confirm that the switch is indeed defective.

Jay one more issue. Area 51 says you are not a member of that club. If you are not then please re do your profile to reflect your correct status. If you are not a JCNA member that is fine--but claiming an alignment when none exists is not. Thanks for taking care of that.

If the switch is failing it cancels the cruise--so no cruise. When you are on the throttle but the switch is on then your preformance is limited and the computer sees it as such. You asked the question--I told you that is a classic set of indicators. Try pulling up on your brake pedal with your foot and see if you can not get cruise--not going to get too involved but this has nothing to do with the fact the car is British. Let me say this again--check the brake switch-- easy to do.

Thank you for your prompt reply Mr. Camp! Seems unusual that a brake pedal switch could cause these kinds of problems. But we are dealing with British engineering. I do love these cars so in spite of the electrical bugs! Do you have any suggestions about the cruise control? Or do you think the brake pedal switch could be the cause of this also?
