I just purchased a 2001 XK8 with Blue Tooth but am told it would not work with today's cell phones. I have gotten conflicting answers from Jaguar regarding whether or not it can up updated. Does anyone know if it can and how I can get it done.

Also, I am unable to get AM stations on the radio but no problems with FM or short wave. I was told by a dealer that it was inherent in jag radios and could not be improved. Jag NA says it is not inherent. Can anyone advise me on if and how this can be addressed?

Thank you.

Obvious for some, maybe. Not so for others that may want to keep their car original. There are some of us like that, you know.

My two cents.....

wouldn't the obvious answer be to replace the stock radio with something current? I put an alpine in my 1995 xjs. Bluetooth works great. it even supports satellite radio.

Boy, 2001 to 2005 was a time of a flurry of evolving phone technology.
Bob, when your car was actually assembled, there wasn't even a digital phone that could be installed in your 2001 car. Late in 2001 the first digital phone, a Motorola Timeport as released to replace the earlier analog phone. In 2003, a Motorola V60 digital phone was released, but it could only be installed in XK8's from 2003 on. Then in 2005, Bluetooth arrived, but it also only went back to the 2003 model year. So in short, Jaguar never had a Bluetooth setup that would work in your MY.

I know there have been other folks that have had Bluetooth equipment added, but it is tedious and does involve expense. Most people aren't up to going to those lengths. Most people I know opt for a device like Patrick uses.

Geez, smack your dealer......
Most times poor radio reception can be traced to either a damaged antenna coax somewhere between the radio and the antenna in the boot, or high resistance between the antenna mast sections. Someone with a good DVOM can connect leads to both ends of the extended mast and check the resistance. Dirt and crud gets between the sections and the electrical connection form one to the next gets bad. It usually results in poor reception. Any resistance over about 1-2 ohms makes the mast a suspect.

Good luck!

I have a 2001 XKR and looked into the same issue with my car and the phone. It was designed for a hard wired phone (go figure how antiquated this is now) I found a guy out in So. Cal. that said he could convert the system to a wireless phone for about $400.00. I bought a Jabra unit for my visor and it works just fine for a lot less.

I have never tuned into the AM station, so I can't be of much help on that question. Never listen to AM and probably never will.

Bob welcome to JCNA. As said today in our nice conversation I can not help. I will ask ou to also post this in the XK8 forum and hopefully Steve Petry will chime in. Others have prob. been down this road.
