The climate control on our 1999 XJ8 has been acting strangely now that cold weather has returned. As the engine begins to warm, the fan comes on low but ratchets up to hurricane speed as the engine warms further, but no hot air comes out. After perhaps 10 to 15 minutes, long after the engine is up to normal, heat begins to appear. The fan then gradually drops in speed, although the amount of heat seems less than my recollection. Suggestions welcome.

William------

Did you ever get a reply to your request-------maybe off line? Seems like there are quite a few of these request that never receive a reply.

I would like to know if the problem was ever resolved, for I may have a simular problem begining to develop.

Once or twice I've had the problem of very little heat and only then if I cranked up the tempature to over 80 degrees----either in ram air (A/C off) or as recommended in the OM, with the A/C on.

Trying to research the problem I checked all the heat and climate control fuses and all was well. I even popped the little grill off the climate control-smog sensor (on the lower drivers side dash panel) and blew a blast of air on the sensor (assuming to blow any dust collected on it off) then removed the four screws holding the panel under the steering column, then dropped the panel and reached in and wiggled the connection to the sensor somewhat. Don't know if that has solved anything, but the heat and system seemed to work normally the few times I've driven the car since. Of course, it may not the next time I drive the car.

Things like this bug the hell out of me and cost hundreds of dollars to let the dealer check it out--most of the time with "couldn't duplicate the problem" written on the receipt. Not their problem, the "off and on" problem's just seems to always disappear in the shop.

So--if it hasn't been fixed, you might try these things also. If it has been fixed, however, I would like to hear what was done.

Cheers
