I was reading the Haynes Automotive Repair Manual for the Jaguar XJ6 1968 thru 1986 and noticed it mentions duel fuel pumps located in the trunk. I have only one for my 1978 XJ-6L. Am I missing one? Another section of the manual mentions submerged pumps for later year models but those are located at the tanks. If I'm supposed to have two, how would the absence of one affect performance? Thank you for any information anyone can provide.

Thanks for the information Doug. My '78 is a US specs car. I'm learning quickly about the Haynes manual and it's lack of detail. I removed the rear door panels last night and the manual failed to mention how the ash tray was screwed into the frame. A minor point but it prevented the panel from "easily lifting off".

Leroy, no worries. Your '78 (if it's a USA car) has fuel injection (first year for F.I. on the 6 cylinder cars) which used only one fuel pump.

I might add the the Haynes manual is great for the basics but is also notorious for being too generic and not fully accounting for the many build variations on these cars.

For fuel injection work you should refer to the sections in the rear of the book which apply to the Series III cars......as your F.I. system id virtually the same....only a few changes in wiring and relays.

Good luck
