I have a 2005 X-Type sport wagon which has just had it's 100k service. Right after that the car started to have a judder or miss. I put it down to the service with new plugs. After three or four days it was still there. Took it back to Jag White Plains and eventually had to go out with the engineer to replicate the judder. It happens whilst cruising just under 2,000 revs at between 40/50mph. Eventually, the car did the judder three times in quick succession. Engineer said it was the torque converter. Nothing that could economically be done, it sometimes gets better or less noticeable but costs the earth to put right. The effect will not get worse or lead to a break down. It does seem to be very infrequent.
Anyone else come across this? What to do.
Robert.

Update We have since (since me initial email) driven down to Ocala, FL, and back (the reason for having the 100,000 service early, before the trip). The judder has gradually settled down now, with only the very occasional, once a week or less, judder. I did get the wheels rotated and balanced once we got FL, as there was also a slight wheel wobble through the steering even after check pressures all round. The wobble got better, only very, very slight now, so probably a slightly bent rim.
Perhaps, reflecting on GC's comment, the new ones have now worn in sufficiently ti the the others!!

I hear ya, fellas!

But I have to give the dealer guys the benefit of the doubt; thinking they wouldn't pull that stunt. Plus, he does say it all started immediately after the 100K service. That tells me it was something that WAS done then, rather than NOT done.

Cheers,

George,

Not meaning to butt in, but had to laugh when I read your comment to Steve. At that very moment, I was thinking the same thing.......naugh, they wouldn't do that. ;-(

Everything you said about the symptoms points to a spark plug issue; new plugs or no. My vote is for a cracked porcelain on one of them. Either from a defective plug to one being dropped and fractured or broken on installation. Easy to do, has happened to me numerous times over the years. Also could be a plug gaped too narrow, also by being dropped or simply missed by the installing tech. Also happened to me before.
If the White Plains facility won't investigate without a tussle, you might have another shop remove them and inspect. Or you could check the front three yourself, they are easy to get to. The other three require the intake manifold be removed. You have a 50/50 chance you'll find something.

Good luck!
