I am looking for a orginal Lucas Coil for my 67 OTC XKE. It has to have a built date stamped on the bottom of it no later then 08/66. Also have the CB+SW on the cap itself. Having a hard time tracking one down. Thanks again!

Scott: Glenn is right in recommending EBay; I've located near impossible-to-find NOS parts in the past. Just be sure you question the seller thoroughly as to its cosmetic condition.

I recall being offered a glass headlight cover, NOS, still in the box with an inspector ID slip in it. When it came, the date code (and location) put it at an extremely early '61...it was worth a small fortune and I only paid $75 if I recall. Of course, I couldn't use it on my car, so Itraded it for a pair of new headlight covers, a correct jack, and a few tools if I remember. So, you can run into anything on EBay...just beware! There's an awful lot of junk out there.

Scott: Also try EBay ... there are always vintage Jag parts there. I've had some luck at finding hard-to-find pieces. You may find a coil. If not right away, keep trying.

Scott: Having gone through this, I can tell you that correct, working, near mint coils are very hard to come by, much less with a correct date code. Almost any date before your car was made is okay, as long as it's within 6 months. The finish is supposed to be an anodized satin aluminum and it is impossible to match with paint. Many owners just polish it, but a fine bead blast with a coat of clear would be the nearest simulation.

Realistically, it should be something that is not judged harshly because it is one of those items that were frequently replaced. I think several of the vendors sell silver coils, but the spade configuration is a bit different, there is no screw-in holder for the high-tension lead, and the caps don't read Lucas. Stay away from the bright canary yellow coils; a bit to obvious. But if you want original, you need to get a Hemmings and call everyone that is parting a car.
