newly rebuilt carbs, but idles way too fast, excess of 1,000 rpms. Slow idle screws have little effect. disconnecting starting carb helps, but not enough. Mixture screws set per specs. Any brainstorming?

Vac. leak? Reversed throttle plates? Sticking pistoms? Improper adjustment of throttle linkage?
