I am planning to replace the carpet in my 68 E-Type Series 1.5 OTS. The current carpet doesn't stay in place and is easily pushed out of position when getting in or out. The supplier I am considering offers padding to put under the new carpet and also offers a snap kit. Did the car originally come with either or both padding under the carpet and snaps to hold it in place. Any enlightenment in this area would be greatly appreciated. The car is a nice, low mileage driver which I intend to use for weekend drives and casual showing and I'd like to keep it as original as possible. I will consider minor variations form original for drivability and livability but nothing major. Also, please make recomendations if you have any as to suppliers who have quality products. I have been looking at carpets and tops at World Upholstery and Trim and Auto Tops Direct.

Thank you.

I've reached the point where I'd join a group buy for flocked carpet for my 70 OTS if I could get it in Light Blue with the mounting holes. (The sample from BAS North America was too gray.) Also, I'd pass on the jute backing and go with Koolmat.

I heard someone once ordered such carpet from China but have no other info.

Sorry to pirate your thread here but your question is timely and I could use some help in this area as well.

Would this also be true for a 1964 S1 OTS? Wondering for two reasons. First I am very frustrated with trying to keep the floor matt carpeting in place (under your feet) and Second because my car had original carpeting and floors in it when I started the resto and no signs of any plastic keepers or the like.

Original? Other Solutions? Thanks so much to anyone knowledgable that can help.

Thanks George and Bob.

I mentioned that I was waiting for a response from SNG Barratt, who I believe has carpet, pad, and fasteners, as to whether they had flocked carpet. This is the response I received from them a few hours ago;

Jim,
We use English Wilton for our Jaguar carpet sets. There is now only 1 UK
manufacturer of wilton and no one is making the flock style.

Customer Service

World Upholstery

Their site states that there are 8 upper and 8 lower fasteners.

On a previous thread concerning Series 1.5, 2, and 3 Carpet, Stew Cleave just provided a great chart showing the change to flocked carpet by chassis number. Anyone with similar questions to mine might want to check that thread.

Jim see our vendors on the Home page--right side. As far as the orig fastners I am not sure what you asked for but they are out there--in droves as it is an easy extruded plastic-or pressure --- As far as the carpet it is the experience of all that flocked is no longer made--but if we all press for it they will make it!

George,
Thanks for the help. Concerning using preferred vendors, I just ordered and exhaust system thru SNG Barratt. However, they are backordered on carpet and can no longer get the original fasteners. Haven't been able to identify the other preferred vendors who supply original specification carpet on the website. Probably just my unfamiliarity with the site. Any pointers?

Also, am a correct in believing that the original carpet is flocked and not Wilton Wool? I am waiting for a response from World Upholstery as to what the specs. are on their carpet.

Thanks,

Jim

Jim the cars came with push in plastic keepers which worked well. If your car is low milage you should be able to see the remains of the female portion. The cars also came with padding. I know nothing of the two vendors you mention but what is interesting is that they did not answer the questions. We have preferred vendors who are sponsors of JCNA that are on the home page here. They are tried and true.
