I have a 1997 XK8 with ABS light on and stability control fault.
What would be a inexpensive OBDII device that will work with this car and be good for the ABS codes. Also where to buy one. I plan on checking tire pressure, fuses, ohms on wheel sensors and then circuit board on ABS module. I would like to pull the codes first.

After about a hundred miles stability control message and Abs light came back again while on bumpy road. I think I will time Sunday to check the wheel sensors ABS module and connections at the pump..

Douglas each time I have seen that type of display it was a loose/dirty connection to the ABS pump/valve body.

I believe Dick was correct, the Innova 3130C could not read the ABS code on the Xk8. Disconnected battery and ABS light went out. Driven the car a few days and no fault codes have shown up yet.

I believe I will purchase the Innova 3130C. The GenRad is too expensive for my budget. I will post the results after I receive and try it. If it doesn't work on the XK8 it will work on my other vehicles. I won't be out much.
You guys are great, thanks Dick and Brian.

Not that the "high end" of their range is inexpensive, at least by my measure, but Innova CAN/OBD-II readers have models that can read ABS & SRS codes, in addition to the standard OBD and manufacturer specific OBD codes.

I have a 3130, which predates either the ABS or SRS capabilities, but it does a good job of pulling a very wide range of codes on a number of vehicles. I have no reason to believe its successors would not perform well.

I have no financial or other interests in Innova, but am a satisfied customer.

GenRad is the least expensive readers that will pull the Jaguar specific codes for the ABS and transmission. It is still not a cheap piece of equipment but a lot less than the units the dealers use. The Generic Store bought units do not read the non-Engine codes.
