OK, my 86 xj6 AC system is blowing warm. You can hear the servos switching things over for AC when I turn the knob to cooler temp setting and it starts blowing hard like always but the air is warm. I bought an R12 to R134 conversion kit and it appears the old coolant has leaked out as the guage shows nothing. It has been close to a year since AC has been used regularly.

Anyway...my assumption is that the low pressure side of the AC is the larger hose with a fitting and dust cap between the left hand valve cover and the power brake unit, going into the firewall. I attempted to charge it and the 2 oz. can of "oil" went in fine but the larger can (12 oz.) only partially emptied (not even half). I followed the instructions and had the AC running on high while doing the above.

Is that the right fitting to be charging? The high pressure fitting, I believe, is the lower fitting on the solid plumbing close to the pump.

Also, can anybody out there think of a reason I am still blowing warm (ambient temp) out of my dash?

Thanks for the help in advance.

Get to an ac shop- We do not need to loose members by ac death. Why convert? There is much more to do than fill her up with 134. I wont go into it here but you are much better off fixing the leak and refilling with R12 or a non flamable substitute. Use freeze 12 here in good old SC and it works as well as R12 and is about $6 a lb. 134 requires higher (much) operating pressures and even a good R12 system has problems.
