for some unknown reason neither of my remotes seem to by working. Stopped by the local Jaq dealer who put in a new battery but no soap. He indicated that they possibly need re-programming @ $55 a copy. However he also said that that may not correct the problem. Has anyone run into a similar problem and found how to correct.

Ha! That's just my 'correct part, correct application' philosophy showing through. I've always been that way, I'm big on cars being exactly the way they were when they were shipped. I'm not big on modifications, substitutions and the like. But that's just me; everybody has their quirks!

If you can make that work for you, go for it!

Cheers,

Once you do the headlamp flash routine and get the single chirp, you have a finite time in which to press the remote buttons to program them. At the end of that time limit, you will get the two chirps indicating that mode has terminated. That's normal. You would also get the two chirps if YOU terminate the programming mode by turning the key back to off. During the programming, there will not be any action of the locks, only a single chirp and flash of the shifter LED for each remote programmed.

The XR83-15K601-AA remote is part number XR81166, and is the original PN for the 2000-2002 S-Type models.

The LJE2610AB remote is OE for 2001 and later XK8 and XJ8 models [X100 and X308 respectively]

An LJA2610AA remote is the first generation used on XK8 and XJ8 through the 2000 model year.

In actuality all these remotes can be programmed interchangeably in a pinch. In fact, they can even be used on the later cars with the fold-out or 'switchblade' keys, and used as a backup, for instance.

Oh, forgot.......
Most information says the antenna for the remotes is around the backlight, [rear glass]; but I think you will find it under the top RH quarter trim cap that the shoulder belt swivel pivot bolts through.

Hope that helps!

Yes I was smart; or I though I was. I had all the answers with my XK8 coupe and my DB7 remotes. Guess what, I have now a very nice 2002 XK8 convertible and I have the same remote problem, they stopped working. I went to the forum dated 05/31/2012, Dick Maury is giving precise instructions on reprogramming the remotes. AND THEY WORK, however I had to change a couple things (that is for my 2002 cat). Open the driver door and leave it open, insert the key in the ignition but donÔÇÖt turn it, press on the high beam flash to pass for 30 seconds, then turn the ignition key to the first position and flash the high beam four times at regular intervals. The red light on the shifter consol will flash once with a chirp. So far, so good. I press the lock button on the remote aiming it to the third brake light on the boot, nothing locked but I got 2 chirps. Now I have two questions:

Where is the famous antenna that could be moved when detailing the car? I asked this question a while back with no reply.
Now I would like to know the proper model number for a 2002 XK8 remote. Is it a XR83 15K601-AA or a
LJE2610-AB? The second generation remotes are working on one battery only, while the older one on two, and I have about 10 remotes in my spare bin.

Can someone help me?

Ed,

I will give you the instructions tomorrow, I have them in my old IPhone and just have to plug it in and go back there. Now the comment from Georges Kemp is triggering something in my mind. My 1999 XK8 FHC and my 1999 DB7 FHC had the same remote issues, they worked only directed to a special spot on top of the rear boot window. George where is the antenna? Please

Thanks

Michel

Check that the little gold "door" on the key barrel has closed when the key is out. If you don't see it, the system thinks the key is still in there, and you will not be able to lock or arm the security system.

Ed if this happened all at once I would ask you if you either had the car detailed or you cleaned the windows. Often if this is done without care the antenna wire is displaced and needs to be clipped back on. Hope that is it!
