I'm having issues getting answers on exactly what is a required deduction for the special division and what would cost actual points in the judging.
I have extensively cosmetically modified my 02 XK8 from the full arden body kit down to custom badging made from a combination of XJS and XF badges, rear seat delete, custom interior with two tone details and piping, brushed titanium and piano black fascia and steering wheel, among MANY others.
As I've read in the rule book, I would use the points deductions list to tally each point deduction to get the required 40 points to enter this division. I've gotten conflicting information from our local concours judges but most say that my car is exactly what this division is intended for. Several said the judging would be more for condition of the vehicle and the quality of the modifications. And I shouldn't loose points for non model/year modifications such as victory tail lights on a 2002.
The Special Division seems to be the least specifically explained in the rule book so I'm trying to get some clarification before entering!
Thanks in advance for any help!!

Hi David, I do remember meeting you! And I thoroughly enjoyed the meeting. I couldn't stay for the judges training due to a trunk show we had that afternoon in hickory. As I said in the first post, I think we figured out that most of my modifications were appropriate and would count towards the necessary deductions. Alan gazarian was the one suggesting that possibly my badges and such may be an issue and he was going to field those questions for me but I haven't heard back. (Don't have a contact for him) That's why I brought my question here.
The really only negative comments (and they weren't that bad! Lol) were a few that were leaving for the tour as I was heading back to hickory. Nothing really to even worry me! On the lines of: beautiful car, shame he stuck those things on it. I'm used to that!
The other thing Alan said was the special division is usually a preformance edition. I guess that's why I've had any hesitation entering. I certainly can't claim performance upgrades but cosmetically I feel confident.
I will be in High Point for the furniture market and depending on how well it goes, I may or may not be able to make it to the next meeting at Shelton but ill try. But May is no problem.
One last thing, I've gotten a couple more silent auction things from friends and I'll get them out right after market or bring with me if I can make Shelton!

Hi Phillip, My name is David Hayden President of CJC and you and I spoke at our recent Judges Training meeting on March 15 at Salem Glenn. Yes I am one of the older gents, actually a very young 70 years old, you also talked to our Chief Judge Brian Myerscough and several other members. Did you stay for the judges training, I seem to think that you left after lunch. We all admired your modified XK8 parked outside and mentioned to you that it would be a great competitor in SE and for you to go on the JCNA WEBSITE to view what was required for this class.
I am hoping that you bring your car to our next event, The Gathering at Shelton Vineyards on April 12, look me up anytime, Best David

Phillip great news. When you get a chance update your profile to show your club status. One of the most ardent S3 guys is in your club and on here Howard B. He might see this and give you some thoughts. If S3 were that bad we would not have it in JCNA so it is your car --do what you wish--and enter it in S3. Some folks get the same way with the factor perfect cars--to each their own but it is one club with ac common bond!

Thanks George, I did read that they check the trunk for cleanliness and the engine bay but I guess my real question is the extent of cleanliness. This is one of my daily driver cars so its not flawless but it certainly looks clean at first glance in the engine bay. Are we talking a cleaning with rags or q-tips?
Hate to be so persistent on the questions but its my first concours and I'd like to be prepared for everything possible. Also new to Carolina Jaguar club and being probably one of the younger members, I've had a bit of a challenge connecting with other members. It seems most of the members are "purists" so my car makes them struggle to figure out how to respond. Not really negative but have had a few older gents turn their noses up!

Phillip in your opening post you stated you had read the rule book and spoken to several judges. Might I suggest you read the rule book once more. It is clearly stated the engine compartment and boot are judges for condition. Those areas are also a possible area you could find part of your mandatory deductions. Best of luck.

One more question if anyone knows.
In the Special division, will they be judging the engine bay of the car as well? I've not really modified it but have finished tons of matainence and new hoses and such. It's pretty clean but do I need to detail it as well?

Phillip. Actually it's not that complicated. Your car would qualify for Special Division, Class S3. Please note the Special Division is judged for condition and cleanliness only, NOT for authenticity. Yes, you must have 40 points or more of deductions for judged, non-authentic, or missing features or components. Advanced registration is required and you will need to submit aS3 Deduction Form to the Chief Judge for the Concours you will be entering. This is covered in detail in the JCNA Rule Book, Chapter 2, Section 4. The S3 deduction form may be downloaded from the Concours section of www.jcna.com. Nice car!
