On my 1969 E-Type FHC the tach registers high. At 70 MPH in 4th gear, the tach is at the peg (7000). The rear tires are slightly undersized which accounts for some of this, but hardly the tach registration that I'm getting. Any ideas?

Re.: Tachometer registers high RPM
The tach on my '68 was acting simular. It is the "solid state" type (no tach generator comming off the back of the cam). I had mine repaired Oct. 2000 by Palo Alto Speedometer and it cost $125. No problems since. The phone # on the receipt is 650-323-0243. Looks like they also are at www.passpeedo.com according to the receipt.

George,
Thanks for the diagnosis. Three additional questions: Can you suggest a shop for the rebuild of the tach? Any estimate of cost? You say "If it is the correct tach," and I'm wondering what I.D. I can find on the tach to confirm that it is correct?

Re.: Tachometer registers high RPM
The Ferite Rods in your tach. are weak and the tach. must be rebuilt. If it is ofcourse the correct tach.

Thanks for the lead on the repair. I'll follow it up.
