I've had my 2001 XKR Convertible (4.0L) laid up for a couple of years, on axle stands. I've run the motor periodically and, apart form the fuel pumps failing, everything appeared to be OK.

I removed the tank and replaced the pumps and have now taken the car out for a couple of shakedown runs and have a vibration that wasn't there when she went into storage.

I have removed and refit all four wheels, and have taken the two fronts to be rebalanced - they were less than 1/2 oz out, so don't think that was the problem. I've not done the back yet, but think it will be the same story.

The vibration is through the entire body, is rhythmic, and seems to increase with roadspeed. I've only been up to about 45-50 so far as it's just around my neighborhood. It doesn't seem to fall and rise with engine speed, and is not there if I just rev the motor.

Any ideas? Do UJ's or drive shafts dry out or stick if the wheels are in the fully down position at the extension of the suspension? Only the tank and wheels have been touched, nothing in the engine or transmission, suspension or drive train.

Any ideas gratefully accepted.

PS: The tire guy did say that the suspension struts appear to have a problem as the front tires show signs of 'cupping'. Don't think it's related as that must have been wear before I put the car away.

Your car doesn't have U-joints as in the past. They are a rubber coupler now. I suspect they have taken a set when the axle was in the down position. Maybe stretched out of shape.

Tim---

This is way out, but if you can put the car on a hoist where you can see all moving parts is step number one.

You didn't say if the storage was inside or not, but either way, look for Dirt Douber bee houses anywhere along the drive shaft and other rotating parts---like inside wheels etc. These little buggers are very strong ---the mud houses, not the bee---although he can give you a sting you'll long remember.

One of the little houses with a couple of rows would be like a wheel weight.

Good luck on finding what ever it is.
