I'm considering an XK8 (or possibly XJ-S) to add to my small collection, but I'm concerned about the labor costs of keeping the car running. Obviously, maintenance should not be overlooked and I have every intention of using quality parts--I just don't want to be surprised with a $3000 repair bill. My question is: can an XK8 be serviced and repaired at home? I restore classic Triumphs and Healeys as a hobby, and have a 4 post lift in the garage--so I'm not afraid of mechanical work and have the tools. I haven't, however, done much work at all on more "modern" classics, so I'm afraid it might be beyond my abilities. With all the covers and tight clearances, I'm concerned that even something simple like changing spark plugs or a fuel injector will mean disassembling half of what's under the bonnet. I'm just as worried I won't be able to diagnose what's wrong when it breaks--I'm used to distributors and an electrical system with 4 fuses. Does anyone take care of their own XK8 these days, or am I at the mercy of a shop to keep it running?

I recently bought a 2005 XK8 Convertible and have been doing the maintenance, replacement of rotors and pads, oil change so far. I just ordered new tie rod ens and sway bar links for both right and left sides and plan to put them on when they arrive. There are some good you tube videos out there for the XK8 but not for everything. Not too bad working on it so far. Parts do get pricey though. Hope this helps.

I have a 2014 XK and need to get it in the air and remove all four wheels. I don’t have a lift. The issue is that the jack stands need to be placed in the same spot that I’m using to lift the car. I had a bad experience in the past with another vehicle placing the floor jack in the wrong place.
I’ve read some things online cautioning about lifting one side of the car too high, could possibly stress the chassis adhesives?
What’s a backyard mechanic to do? Help!
