What engine number starts the better cam chain tensioners.
I have a 2000 XKR & I think most 2000 XKR's had the better engine tensioner.
Does any one know the actual engine number when the better tensioners were installed?

That number cited by Phillip is an ENGINE number, rather than a VIN number. That engine is the first one to get the second design tensioner, but that second design only differed because a helper spring was added to the plunger to prevent a split-second rattle on startup. It was still the composite construction just like the original, and still susceptible to breakage at higher age & mileage.

Edit: That engine, by the way, would have ended up in a vehicle near the middle of the 1999 model year run.

As far as knowing what is in a given engine, the only certain way to know is to have documentation of the installation/replacement, or popping a cam cover off to have a look-see.
