Seattle Jaguar Club (NW41)

Seattle Jaguar Club

The Jaguar Drivers and Restorers Club of Northwest America (with new dba Seattle Jaguar Club) welcomes enthusiasts of new and old Jaguar automobiles

Jaguar ownership is not necessary, just a passion for these beautiful cars. There are several events that appeal to a range of enthusiasts including drives, shows, technical sessions.

The club is fun and friendly

Members include both young families and mature members who remember when some of the older cars were new on the road. Cars in the club range from new Jaguar models like the new F-Types and its new SUV the F-Pace to classics such as E-Types from the 1960's and XK models from the 1940's and 1950's.

Jags lined up again!
Janet and Andrew Hewiston
Another stop on the journey was at the MaryHill Museum of Art.
Interesting collections

Anyone that arrived early gathered in the parking lot.
Kurt used the opportunity to pass on JCNA awards to Roy Pringle and Ron Smith.
Roy Pringle received 1st Place Newsletter Award for his JagMag photo of the 2021 Jaguars on the Green. Go back and look at the 2021 Sep Bonus issue, page 20, to see this photo.
Ron Smith received an award for his technical article about changing Mark 10 shocks. To read that article, go to the Mar 2021 JagMag, pg 11.
Now this is an old vehicle!
Once we all checked in, they split us into two groups for guided tours.
L-R one of the guides then Kurt Hrubant, Bob Alness, then new members Marjorie Brazier and Ian McFall.

Tour guide leading us through.
There was a section with the largest collection of boat motors I have seen.
Fred Ehret posed in the auto display while Art looked on.
Art Foley posed too.

I could include a ton more photos of cars but this is The End!
2022Mar26 Tour of BritSport of Seattle
On March 26th, 2022 the Seattle Jaguar Club got to tour BritSport of Seattle.
Mark Jones is the proprietor of Britsport of Seattle and we are grateful that he opened his shop for our club to tour.
The green 1955 DB Lagonda 3 Litre Saloon has an interesting story. You will have to ask Mark to tell it to you.
It was a very casual tour, people could wander around, socialize, ask Mark any questions they had and maybe even get an appointment setup for their car. Linda sipping her coffee!
Bill Holmes made it to this event.
Is John Holmes working on that car?
This is CJ and Leo Taflin (and the dog they are pet sitting) in front of their 1970 XKE Roadster's bonnet.
And here is the rest of the Taflin's XKE.
Ron Smith with his friend but I can't remember his name.
Brian talking to brand new members Mary & Greg Hjelm and their son, Alex, who just bought a 2018 F-Pace. We will have to talk him into getting his own membership!
John Wiley came to this event.
Beautifully restored XK150 body on a support jig
This photo shows more of the support jig. The jig prevents the body panels from flexing prior to mounting on the chassis.
Debbie Jones, Mark's wife, provided everyone with coffee and sweets to enjoy.
Peter Downing talking to Ron Smith.
Roy Pringle and Ken Freed. Everyone was using their hands to describe stuff!
Len and Maura Shank checking out the cars.
L-R Douglas Jackson, Brian's back, Ken Freed and Jeff Beatty.
Mark was very low key but available to talk to people and answer questions.
While John Wiley checks the wonderful memorabilia you have to ask, what is Glen Read describing to Ray Papineau??
Who can guess what this car is that Ray Papineau is standing by?
Mike Hunsley and Dann & Laverne Gadbois.
Doug Jackson on left, brought a friend, Bob Willits, with red ballcap.
Looks like John and Trish Blackburn are looking for John's post retirement.
It was nice to see Linda Roberts get to make one of our events.
Glen Read, Brian Case and Walt Crush.
Bonnets and more Bonnets
Early XK120, right hand drive.
Mark works on all sorts of British cars.
Walt Crush and his 2003 XK8 convertible in Zircon Blue. This was the first time meeting him, so I had to get a pic of him and his car!
Mark with Jeremy Katz. We had not met Jeremy before this.
Dann & LaVerne Gadbois talking with the Hjelm's son. I had a nice conversation with LaVerne. Learned that she had been a librarian.
Brian and Dann and Mark chatting. Posed for me is Mark Zenor. I had not met him before. His claim to fame is being the last name on an alphabetical listing of all our members!
2022Mar20 Dinner at AL LAGO Ristorante in Lake Tapps
On 3/20/22 we had 10 Seattle Jaguar Club members meet at AL LAGO Ristorante Italiano in Lake Tapps, WA.
Since we weren't a large group we were all able to sit at one table. It was nice to have such an intimate group and get to know one another a little better.
Clockwise, Cheryl Jacobson, (can't see Brian, Paul Petach, Sue Kingston, Margaret Ames and Tom Hilton.
Kurt trying to get everyone in his photo.
Paul, Kurt and Sue.
Kurt and Cheryl Jacobson.
Trish and John Blackburn said they frequent this restaurant on a regular basis.
Margaret Ames and Tom Hilton. I enjoyed sitting aross from Margaret and having a chance to talk.
Sharon and Brian Case
SALUTE!
That pizza really looked good!
The Terra e Mare with prawns, Italian sausage and penne pasta was one of the waitresses favorites and was recommended by Trish. It was good!
Rigatoni Wild Boar Bolognese was a dish you don’t often see.
At the end of dinner Paul talked about having to take a large suitcase to the upcoming JCNA annual general meeting because he was going to be bringing several awards home to distribute.
2022Mar12 St Patrick's Drive
On 3/12/2022 the Seattle Jaguar Club had a St Patrick's Drive from Port Gamble to Gig Harbor where we met for dinner at the Dunnagan Irish Pub & Brewery. What other Jaguar clubs could have a ferry ride before their drive?
Brian Case at the railing on the Edmonds to Kingston ferry.
Everyone met in Port Gamble to start the drive.
L-R, John Voigt, Kent and Lisa Wiken, Brian's back and Tom Hilton.
We were all interested in Art Foley's 1961 series I E-Type. I forget the number but it was a very early production car.
A look inside Art Foley's series I E-Type.
We stopped along the drive at this Hood Canal Visitor Center.
Vehicle on left is Craig and Wendy's new F Pace SVR, then Kent and Lisa Wikens XF and Art Foley's E-Type.
Tom Hilton and Margaret Ames 2004 XK8 convertible.
We did run into some rain along the way but it was towards the end and not too bad. What was unusual was that all of us were able to stay together from beginning to end of this Hood Canal drive.
Red Jaguar in the parking lot belonged to Roy's friend Bill Hay.
Brian Case enjoying the conversations!
Back to the camera is Ann Alness then Margaret Ames, Cheryl and Kurt Jacobson, Bob Alness and Tom Hilton.
L-R, Sue Kingston, Lisa and Kent Wiken, Craig and Wendy Duckering and Paul Petach. I think Paul had suggested this event but Kent did all the legwork to organize it. It was a great drive and good dinner.
L-R, Bob Alness, Tom Hilton, Ann Alness and Margaret Ames.
I liked their wood carved name plague.
L-R, Roy Pringle, Ana Alvernaz, Art Foley, Brian Case, John Voigt and Roy's friend Bill Hay. We had a little fun, when Ana arrived late, our table all stood up and clapped for her.
I just want to point out the woman at the back, at the next table. Her name is Majorie Brazier and her husband is Ian Mcfall. They arrived at the pub in their S-Type Jaguar and were very surprised to see the parking lot full of Jags! They were very interested to hear about our club and all the things we are doing. They have since paid their dues and joined the club and joined our event at LeMay Collection at Marymount.
2022Feb19 Seattle Jaguar Club toured a member's car collection
On Feb19 2022 the Seattle Jaguar Club members met at Thomas Swayze's house to view his collection. He has the perfect estate to show off his collection!
When we arrived Ray Papineau was there to help everyone get parked on the lawn.
With Ray's help everyone was evenly lined up!
Craig & Wendy Duckering posed for me in their new 2021 F Pace SVR, Eiger Grey color.
I met Barrie and Karen Hutchison and got them to pose in front of their XJ Jaguar.
Ray Papineau's red XJS and my Topaz S-Type.
As people parked we gathered on the lawn and visited. Tom Swayze in the center. CJ & Leo Taflin on the left. Art Foley then Tom Hilton on the right.
The first cars we saw in the collection were a 2011 XJL, a 2000 Vanden Plas and a 1967 340. Kurt starting to take pictures right away.
The first car that Tom put on display for us was his 1950 Mk V Sedan.
He gave us the highlights of the model and of his ownership.
We all had time to gawk at it.
And Tom answered any questions we had.
The tool kit in the trunk is a great feature!
John Voigt thinks so too!
The front door opens opposite of most vehicles.
What is everyone looking at?
Oh, it must be the engine.
The Mark V is an awesome Jaguar!
Inside the garage we could see how organized Tom is. He does much of his own work on the vehicles!
He told us about this 1989 XJS.
It was on the lift for a tire change.
Hidden in the back was a 1930 Model A Town Sedan.
1972 XJ6 in Carnival Red.
L-R Craig & Wendy Duckering, Ray Papineau, Bob Alness, Bob Book. There was an old English phone booth with a working phone inside.
Tom parked the Mark V on the circle drive.
And the next vehicle he talked about was the 1967 340. Some of the members L-R Kurt Jacobson, Jeff Beatty, Barrie Hutchinson, Terry Mathisen, Ron Smith, Doug Jackson, Ken MacKenzie, Tom Bohn, Tom Swayze.
Just because I haven't pointed him out anywhere else, Ehab Sahawneh is on the far right.
After the 340 came the 2000 Vanden Plas
The backseat has a lot of leg room.
The next Jaguar Tom talked about was his 2011 XJ L
The color, I think, was Black Cherry.
Bob Alness and Bob Book in front of 1997 XK8.
Engine of the XK8
We took a break and went inside for lunch. Tom had prepared a wonderful lunch with ham and potatoe salad and cole slaw. The cole slaw was different, with cranberries and pecan pieces. I loved it and had to ask for the recipe.
L-R Ron Smith, Inger & Ulf Goranson and Richard Scott. Richard helped Tom host this event and was super thoughtful.
It was an opportunity to visit with other club members. Margaret Ames and Cheryl Jacobson sitting at the counter with Tom Hilton behind Margaret. Just so you know Tanya Book also attended, she is in the back with the jaguar print top.
L-R Karen & Barrie Hutchinson and Ken MacKenzie.
Ron Smith and Craig Cootsona on the right, had a chance to chat.
Roy Pringle on left and Tom Hilton on right.
Tom Swayze on left and Karen Hutchinson on right.
A vehicle that Tom did not bring out was a 1978 Rolls Royce.
Rolls Royce memorabilia.
The last car we viewed was a 1938 Rolls Royce Phantom III
The interior had so much room!
It was a fun end to a great presentation of a great car collection. We can't thank Tom and Richard enough for opening their home and garages to the club!
Those headlights were huge!
2022Feb5 the Seattle Jaguar Club had a Valentine Sweetheart Drive
On 2/5/22 the Seattle Jaguar Club had a Valentine Sweetheart Drive that started at the chocolate factory, Boehm's Candies, in Issaquah.
Club members got into two groups for a tour. L-R Brian Case, Sue Kingston, Lisa Kent, Cheryl Jacobson, Samah Sous, Ehab Sahawneh, John & Trish Blackburn.
Debra & Tom Bohn
Recent new members, Alex & Heather Weinert arrived in their E-Type.
I always try to get people to pose with their car and Alex & Heather obliged. I love their hats!
We had a lineup of E-Types. Next to Alex & Heather's were the Cases, Ehab & Samah's and the Blackburns. The last car is an Allante belonging to the Bohns.
Nice photo of Ehab's car taken by Alex Weinert.
Nice photo of the Blackburn's car taken by Alex.
Sharon taking a photo of Ehab's car while Alex was taken a photo of her E-Type.
I think most of us thought the tour was just of a candy factory but it included the home of Julius Boehm. He was quite a collector and had some interesting history.
L-R Ehab, Samah, Lisa and Kent. Kent Wiken was responsible for organizing this Sweetheart Drive. It turned out to be a great adventure.
The Blackburns listening to the tour guide.
There was a very interested ceramic heater in the room.
And a really old phonograph machine that played disks. And it worked.
One room had a collection of hand-made dolls that were created by an employee of the chocolate factory. Each doll represented one of the employees.
The kitchen of the home was interesting.
I especially liked that the countertop had been built with a space where two ceramic tiles could be inlaid. And recipes had been written and fired on tiles that could be inserted where they would be used when cooking/baking.
The garden outside was nice too.
We also went into a chapel.
We sat in the pews and listened to the tour guide give us some of its history.
Wood carving on the wall in the chapel.
The ceiling had a mural painting that depicted a famous Michelangelo's painting from the Sistine Chapel, The Creation of Adam.
Trish looking up at that painting. There was also a beautiful marble statue, replica of Michelangelo's Pieta statue of Mary and Jesus.
Here is a shot of Alex Weinert taking a picture of the statue and chapel. Alex had a real camera instead of a phone camera!
And here is the photo Alex took.
Finally we went into the chocolate factory and the tour guide gave us some history on the factory.
Boehm had started his candy making in 1940 and still had some of the old equipment.
That is one huge sheet of chocolate! If you look to the back wall you will see the device that is rolled across the sheet in one direction, then in the other, in order to quickly cut it into small bite-size pieces.
Right of the tour guide are Heather & Alex Weinert and Lisa and Kent Wiken.
A tour guide talking about on how they make their candies.
They showed a video of these chocolates being hand-made. That swirl on the top of each one was made by a human swirling the chocolate on the top with their gloved finger.
Chocolate comes in lots of shapes!
This room is where they packaged up orders.
On display were some special pieces like this Cinderalla coach and horses.
Now that is one huge Easter Rabbit!
And here are the carrots to feed to that rabbit!
Some samples of custom orders. If you look to the right, you will see a box with a mouse for microsoft!
Valentine hearts ready to go.
Samah says "I'll take one".
They were ready for the chocolate buying rush for Valentines Day.
After the tour members got to visit and talk cars. Ehab was inspecting the recently installed headliner in Case's E-Type.
The E-Types lined up.
Back of Weinert's E Type.
I have been trying to give up sugar and was interested in the sugar free options. I had never heard of Maltitol. I bought some in spite of the Adverse Effects warning! The warning did make me limit the intake and they did taste good!
Everyone enjoyed visiting with the other members, and looking at their cars, while waiting for everyone to finish shopping.
Everyone enjoyed visiting with the other members, and looking at their cars, while waiting for everyone to finish shopping.
L-R Alex Weinert, Tanya and Bob Book and Lisa Kent. Some with bags of chocolate!
Carol Jackson doing a taste test.
Kent gave everyone some instructions as we prepared to drive into Issaquah historic town.
We all stopped at an old time gas station in the quaint town of Issaquah.
Everyone posed for a group shot. L-R the Bohns, Brian Case, Paul Petach & Sue Kingston, Lisa & Kent Wiken, Tanya Book, Margaret Ames & Tom Hilton, the Weinerts, Doug Jackson, Bob Book, Cheryl & Kurt Jacobson and finally, Trish & John Blackburn. I just now realized that Carol Jackson is missing! Where were you Carol?
Tom Bohn with the old gas pumps.
Ehab was giving some directions.
Wonder what Sue and Tanya were discussing?
Some of the members walked over to where there was an old train station and equipment.
Now here is one of Alex Weinert's artistic photos. One you want to blow up and frame and hang on your wall!
Ehab is still giving directions.
Tom Hilton was trying to be funny.
Margaret was amused.
After leaving Issaquah we drove to Newcastle. It was a pleasant drive.
Our destination was the Newcastle Golf Club. It looked like a castle on a hill.
Paul Petach with Sue Kingston and her newly acquired 2009 XKR convertible. At the previous dinner at Mercato, Sue mentioned that she was looking for an XK. Brian forwarded an ad in BringATrailer and the rest is history!
We had a late lunch at Calcutta Grill at the Newcastle Golf Club.
Trish & John Blackburn were excited to play a game. And they were good at it, tying with the Books for first place. For entertainment we had all couples write down how they met and where they went on their first date. Then everyone tried to guess which answers went with which couple.
Trish & John Blackburn, Paul Petach & Sue Kingston and Brian Case. For a first date Brian took Sharon snowmobiling at his house. They lived in Michigan. And John met Trish when his son was in her kindergarten class.
Alex & Heather Weinert and Tom Hilton and Margaret Ames. Tom & Margaret first met at a Halloween party and she was a "black cat" and Tom was awestruck! Awwww….
Ehab Sahawneh and Samah Sous and Tanya & Bob Book. Tanya & Bob met on a blind date.
Doug Jackson, Kurt & Cheryl Jacobson, Kent & Lisa Wiken and Carol Jackson. There you are Carol!!
Paul Petach with Sue Kingston having a good time!
Tried to take some glam shots in front of the castle.
Brian in his E-Type 2+2.
Not sure where Alex took this sunset photo, but it looks like a nice ending to an awesome Sweetheart Drive!
2022Jan23 Tour of Capital & dinner at Mercato in Olympia
On 1/23/22 the Seattle Jaguar Club met for a tour of the Capitol in Olympia, followed by dinner at Mercato.
The architecture on the buildings is amazing.
A walk around the Capitol Mall included the John A Cherberg Building. This is the primary office building for the Senate.
The Insurance Building was the second building to be constructed on the Capitol Campus.
Winged Victory WWI Monument
Close up of the statue
The Capitol Mall included this fountain.
And there was a sunken garden.
There was a Law Enforcement Memorial.
The memorial listed names of deceased going back to 1855!
Waiting for our tour to begin, L-R Trish & John Blackburn, Margaret Ames & Tom Hilton, Curt Kyle, Brian Case, Tom Bohn.
L-R Trish Blackburn, Lisa & Kent Wiken, Margaret Ames and Curt Kyle.
Our tour guide, on the right, began telling us about the capital building.
We did a lot of looking up. The ceilings were amazing works of art!
Chandeliers hanging from the ceiling were by Tiffany.
The tops of the columns and the rosettes on the ceiling had so much detail!
The flower patterns here were gilded.
All the state flags were represented.
Part of our group here with the tour guide, below the rotunda.
Inside, the tour guide told us about the different marble that was used in the capitol building.
The marble walls, ornate ceilings and tiffany chandeliers were unbelievable!
Close up of one of the crystal chandeliers.
Door panels showed an early capital building.
Here I have pasted together four other door panels that depicted different scenes.
The chandelier hanging from the rotunda was very deceptive in size. We never would have guessed that it was 24 feet!
Closer shot of the chandelier.
This photo shows the angels that are near the top of the chandelier. These "small" statues are 4 feet tall!
After the tour we heading to our cars and proceeded to dinner.

Inside the Auto Club room, Brian Case helped man the registration table.
The venue had a maximum capacity of 60 people and it was sold out.
It was interesting that LeMay did not have much in the way of Jaguars in the museum yet this room had two huge blowup photos of Jaguars.
Kurt Jacobson, our outgoing president, was our moderator for the event. Kurt had the brilliant idea of holding the annual meeting in LeMay and having the panel discussion with members bringing their cars for display.

2021Sep18 Tour of RW Auto Classics in Monroe
The Seattle Jaguar Club met at RW Auto Classics in Monroe WA on 9/18/21 for a tour of the vast collection of parts they have.
The building used to be a very large horse stable. Sad to see the loss of a horse stable but they have done a great job converting it and making good use of the space.
Sean Riedel, far left, started off our tour with the basic run down. How they got started, how they have grown.
Jesse Rumens, second from left, picked up the story. They specialize in British car parts.
Matt Wittmier, second from left, gave us his background with the company. Far right is Ray Papineau.
Far right is Ray Wittmier who is Matt Wittmier's father. He and Ray Papineau seemed to have a connection, their first names!
Jesse explained how they buy up whole collections of parts from various sources.
They have thousands of parts and it is a never ending task to catalog them all.
They recommended calling them if you are looking for something specific and they can see if they have it.

Racks and racks of parts.
I like this one for the colorfulness!
Kurt and Ehab might be discussing the kissing E-Type bonnets.
Members could wander around at their leisure and have a chance to catch up with other members.
Or wander alone and look for that one part they need!

Seemed like the parts never ended.

2021Sep11 Exotics at Redmond Towne Center - British Day
Cars just arriving. The Redmond Towne Center was a great location for the Exotics car show-British Day held Sep 11th.
It was an amazing and colorful collection of vehicles.
Colorful!
It was fun walking up and down trying to take in all the great cars!
I like Kurt's description of a line of Skittles.
There were a variety of cars! Bug Eye Sprites in Front and Aston Martins in the background.
One area was filled with McLarens.
The center circle, by the fountains, was filled with the cars the staff liked the best. In case you can't tell which is which, one on the left is new Project 8 belonging to Tony Grayson and the one on right is 1973 E Type 2+2 belonging to Brian Case.

I love that color!
A close up of decal on XK140 belonging to Greg Whitten.
You might notice me getting Greg Whitten to enter his email address on my phone. I wanted to be able to send him stuff on our club and talk him into joining. Hasn't worked so far…..
Greg couldn't understand why I wanted him to pose with his Jaguar when he had also brought this #42 Austin Healy racing car which, apparently, was much more valuable and probably has a story.
Kurt went up on the balcony for some shots from on high. That's me waving, next to that car I couldn't find the owner for.
A Beautiful Classic Bentley
Capital B for Bentley.
Ehab brought his 1950 XK120. He arrived late but everyone loves his car and let him pull into the main circle, by the fountains.
Is John Holmes admiring Ehab's car or wondering how he got into the center circle when he arrived so late and John got there super early to get in the center circle?
Kent Wiken on left and Tony Grayson on right, looking at that Project 8!
Brian Case enjoys answering everyone's questions about the E-Type and just talking cars!
It was a fun day! Everyone was enjoying the cars.

The Land Rover Adventure Rides were cancelled due to Covid but I hope they have them in 2022, sounded like fun. The Portland ABFM had a lot of things to do at this event.
JOCO had lots of banners.
The field was well organized for lining up the Jaguars.
And it was a really nice day!

2021Aug21 Skyfest Car Show in Arlington, WA
Ray Papineau with his XKSS replica and Debbie Read in her XK150. A few members left the WWABFM event and caravanned up to Arlington to attend. They put on a great show with aerial acrobatics, a bomber, hot air balloons and 100 lighted drones putting on quite the performance!
Ray had some fun with taking his steering wheel off and blaming it on the children!
Parents enjoyed taking pictures of the kids!

After dark it was fun watching the lighted balloons. Shown here with Brian's E-Type and Glen's XK150.
They lit up the balloons in time to some music. You had to be there!
After the balloons, the lighted drones, about 100 of them, put on a performance. They made a balloon shape.
They formed into circles
The circles floated around.
You really needed to be there to appreciate the choreography of 100 drones flowing seamlessly from one shape to another.
Here they flowed into a star shape.
And of course, the shape of an airplane. And the plane wasn't static, it flew around.
The drones finale was this banner.

2021Jul 2-4 Annual Pacific NW Historics Vintage Races at the Pacific Raceway
The Annual Pacific Northwest Historics Vintage Races at the Pacific Raceway was a great event. It is on the July 4th weekend every year. Definitely want to mark your calendar for next year.
There was such a variety of cars in the car corral
They were featuring the E-Type for its 60th anniversary. So Jaguars got to park right along the fence and it was a great spot to watch the races.
It was a beautiful day and we could watch the races and socialize with other members or people looking at our jaguars.
The display tent included two of our member's E-Types and a race car belonging to Mark Jones. The Blackburn's had their convertible in there and the Case's had their Coupe there.
On Sunday Craig Shrontz added his BRG convertible E-Type to the display tent.
Chuck & Lindsy Anderson packed a lot of stuff in the back of their E-Type.
Here you can see them relaxing under the shade of their canopy with the Jaguar Racing flag flying.
You can tell they have done this a time or two with their table & chairs, enjoying their picnic lunch.
