Does anyone have a ballpark figure for the cost of a clutch job on a 68 2+2?
I have been told that there are 2 ways to do this.
1) Removal of Engine via the top ( hence removing bonnet etc )
or
2) Removal of engine from below by jacking up the car & dropping the engine.

Any experience or thoughts.
I would suspect that removal of the engine from the top would be more expensive.

Thanks in advance
Marios

By all means, a major job, and not one for a casual weekend mechanic...be afraid; be very afriad. The bonnet will have to come off...and for peats sake, tape together the shims for top right, bottom right, top left and bottom left shims, otherwise your bonnet will not fit worth a darn.

Remove water pump, oil filter, and anything else that can get in the way. Take LOTS of photos. The biggest Pain In The Arse will be removing the reaction tie bar plate without disturbing the torsion bars settings!!

Get a good Bently or other manual, and hire a mechanic to help.

If you plan to do this make sure to use a high quality clutch replacement. You must pull or drop the motor or remove it by removing the front picture frame and pulling it straight out. Many things have to be considered but safety has to be first. If you have to rent an engine puller you will not have room to get the angle you need for a top extraction. Many frames have been bemt by a poor engine hoist.

I received one response from someone who said that this is a 3-4 hour job
and can be done without removing the engine. I cannot see how that is possible. Has anyone here ever replaced a clutch on an e-type or had it done?

Thanks
