I just purchased a silver grey (metallic) Series 3 with a black interior. The man I bought it from has had the car since 1974 and says that the car came with a black interior. I note that the newly approved Judge's guide does not list black as an original interior color with the silver grey body paint. I have ordered a Heritage Trust Certificate but they take quite a while to obtain. The interior on this car is shot and I want to replace it with black but not if I'm going to get hit with a non-authentic deduction.

Pat,

We own a 1972 Series 3, Ascot Fawn with black interior. All Jaguar info at the time said black interior was not available with Ascot Fawn. Ours was original. We got the Heritage Certificate and it was in fact black when built. All choices were flexible then. If you want black and if you feel it was original, I recommend you replace it with black. We have had our car judged many times and it was never questioned.
