My XK 150 refused to start the other day. The battery is fine and fully loaded. I was told it is my alternator. How much should I expect to pay for a new alternator, including labor? In Los Angeles. is that a part that is usually kept in stock by a certified Jag shop?

All XK 150s were supplied with generators, not alternators. Yours may have been converted some where along the way. Regardless, if your battery is fully charged this tells me the unit, whether alternator or generator, is functioning otherwise your batteries (the car has two) would be dead. I agree with the other lister that you need to find another mechanic. There are club listings on this site. Find the club nearest you and contact them. I am sure they know of a local, reputable, mechanic who can diagnose your problem.
