I would like to purchase one of the follow models to use as a daily driver, what advice or recommendations can you make. The models of interest are the XK-150fhc, the XK-E fhc,the Mark II or an XJS convertible. Understand that my daily commute is 26 miles each way and can take anywhere from, in my 2005 Chrysler Pacifica, 30 minutes to 2 hours. The time variance is due to traffic and weather conditions. Regardless of model I will either install A/C or purchase a vehicle will A/C.

Just curious... I have a 1990 XJS V12 that I just drove from NJ to FL and it averaged 17.6 mpg. I noticed 20 to 24 above, is that in the USA?

I suggest acquire them all and rotate your DD :-)

XKE as a DD?
Not very comfortable DD in Series I trim if you are tall or large boned. XKE Series III - same fuel consumption as a Hummer!
Series II probably best DD.

Otherwise, if I had to choose, I would pick a modern car (with regard to avoiding Nikasil years) or a near modern car (well maintained XJS). V-12 XJS seems to get about 20-24 mpg.

I'm not familiar enough with the XK but i do not see them as a good daily driver to commute to work, unless the roads are prefect and traffic free...

Teh E-type works as a DD. i use my 72 FHC as such. it's a very comfortable car, doens't overheat, etc... the only downside is the fuel consumption, under 10mpg in traffic...

The mark II should be fine too, along with the XJS...

One of y favorite cars, if i ever need a full size saloon, would be a late XJ40 (93/94), with rectangular headlights... they are very cheap, and when in good condition look absolutely timeless.

over the years, I've owned a 96 XJ6, 99 XJR (also black on black) and a 00 XKR coupe which i sold last year. both the XJ where very reliable although my wife drove them most of the time... the XKR on the other hand wasn't as reliable... somehow my e-type can handle my agressive driving style much better than the near new XKR... :-)

As the owner of a 1998 XJR, that I use as my daily driver (55k mi owned since new) while it is not on your ÔÇ£listÔÇØ I must suggest that you add it. The car has been a pinnacle of reliability, comfort, power and style. (canÔÇÖt not say the same for my Mercedes CL600) I owned a 1994 XJS V12 Coupe That I also purchased new and unfortunately, it was a total basket case. Nothing like unlocking the doors and having them instantly re-lock necessitating one crawl out on open window to dampen ones view. While the XK 120-150 are arguably one of the most attractive cars on earth, I could not allow one of them to be subjected to the daily rigors of the ÔÇ£commuteÔÇØ. The thought of having its sheet metal ÔÇ£re-designedÔÇØ by an inattentive soccer mom in her minivan is much too much to bear.

well that is my two cents...
Cheers

My 89 XJS with the 5.3 V12 is my daily driver. Over 35K miles in three years with no significant reliability issues.

thank you, I believe this model is available as a 6 or 12 cylinder car, is one better then the other considering the commute and traffic it will have to endure?
