What are "HPDE" events? There is some thought of having a non-sanctioned (warm up) and then sanctioned slalom in Ontario.

What else is on the sanctioned/non-sanctioned HPDE menu (tasty things I hope).

Feb 3rd 2006

We are discussing having a track day and we have had a guest speaker from VARAC.

So, a JCNA event would seem to take the form of a track day, with HPDE instruction.

I will suggest something to our event director.

You are fortunate to have a vibrant and active vintage racing group right in your backyard. Check out www.varac.ca

I race a '66 Mini Cooper with VARAC as well as a Formula Ford. You should encourage members of the Ontario Jaguar Owners Association to come out and spectate at the VARAC vintage Festival at Mosport which is scheduled this year for June 22-25.

Dan,

HPDE stands for "high performance driving event" or "high performance driver education" depending on who is using the term and what they are referring to. Slaloming is not really considered HPDE (we do have a separate slalom page, you know). HPDEs are usually track events run at some of the motor speedways or road courses. For example, in the spring each year, the Empire Division runs a joint Jaguar -- VSCCA event at Lime Rock Park in northwest Connecticut. This year, I believe it's scheduled for June 2 & 3. Other events may be held in conjunction with other clubs at Pocono Raceway in Pennsylvania, Watkins Glen in NY, New Hampshire International Speedway, etc.

Hope that tells you want you wanted to know. Track days are a lot of fun, but if you've never driven on the track before, be sure to pick an event that has a good teaching program and provides in-car instructors as well as a novice class. Driving on the track with no experience can be very dangerous, but with instruction it's safe and unbelievably exciting.
