have a '69 XKE 2+2 that is just about ready to be registered and put on the road. will be putting on historic plates on car when i register it and would like to know which insurance company is recommended for a car 35 years old. will be using the car for limited mileage and only about 6 months a year (May - possibly October). also would like to take car to JAG events (just for showing it, not for any trophys)
already use State Farm for my cars but i would prefer to use a company that specializes in insuring antique/older cars.
any recommendations?
car will be used and registered in CT
thanks for any help you can give me and look forward to meeting other JAG owners
p.s. this is the first JAG i have ever owned!

Matt, Here in NJ, the land of sky-high insurance rates, collectors car rates are much lower than regular coverage, so there is no choice really. As far as coverage for "normal" driving, my policy allows for a limited amount of "pleasure driving", (since I am retired, I can't drive my car to work). I use Condon & Skelly and they do have a 2500 mile per year restriction, however, if I know that I will go above that, I can contact them and document the show(s) I will attend and ask for an extension, and they are very generous in granting extra miles.I have done that 2 or 3 times over the years. Since I have a few cars, I generally do not come close to the limits since I spread out the driving between the cars, but I know that other companies like JC Taylor do not have that restriction and may be a better choice for anyone expecting to drive more than 2500 a year.I had one unusual experience. The XKE was parked in a shop's parking lot when a county street sweeper drove through and kicked up a stone that cracked the windshield.I reported the accident to the county for insurance payment. But I do not have a deductable, and the county has a provision that only covers losses beyond the deductable, so they would not pay a penny. I reported it to Condon & Skelly and showed them the letter from the county. They paid the bill and then went after the garage to collect from their insurance since the car was parked on their lot when the windshield was broken.

I have several older cars and have used my State Farm policy for them in the past. My agent allows the coverage to be suspended while the cars are in storage and not being driven. This cost savings comes out to be about equal to the lower cost Vintage car policies.
However I now have 2 cars insured with Hagerty and have been happy so far. Hagerty is the most liberal with "yearly miles driven" and not as restrictive on the use of the car as some of the other Vintage Car Insurance Companies.

My advice is to ask and be clear about the type of driving you will do with the car when looking at the Vintage Car Insurance. Be sure your intended use of the car is covered. Most will not cover the car if you drive to work on a nice day....for instance.

I live in NJ and use Personal Lines Insurance Co. as my broker. They placed the policy for my 1971 S2 with a company that specializes in Classic Car insurance. Premium was only about $200. per year

I use JC Taylor for my two classics and they have been great. I hit a deer a couple of years ago and I had no problems whatsoever with the claim. They underwrite the coverage through Zurich Insur. Co. (at least mine is). Be sure to let them know that you are a JCNA member.

Congratulations and best of luck with your Jaguar. As far as insurance is concerned, I suppose it depends on where you live. I am from NJ which has about the highest insurance in the galaxy. However, antique cars are covered for much less than you'd expect. I have used Condon & Skelly as an agent and they find a carrier. Other friends have used J.C. Taylor and have been happy with that coverage as well. If you look in Hemmings Motor News, you will find advertisements for several companies selling antique or classic car insurance. Some policies restrict your mileage but you can often get a waiver to attend a meet far away. I have done that with Condon & Skelly several times over the years without a problem. I currently have 3 collectors cars and their rates seem reasonable, especially compared to what I have to pay for my daily drivers here in NJ.
