I'd like to keep my 61 coupe looking correct, but may never get it judged. What is the best looking, yet good performing tire to fit, and where are they avalable at a good price?

Mark,

I think the Michelin XVS radial at 185-15 fits the bill, other than cost. I have these on my factory wheels, I autocross the car, do track events, and take spirited street drives, and I don't think any other tire on the stock 5" wire wheel can best it. And it's a stock tire size for the car, after 1963. Treads will last much longer than the 5-6 years that tires should be used -- after that, the rubber deteriorates and becomes dangerous.

Cost -- $190 per tire, or so. Coker Tire on the Internet. Or, about $160 per year -- peanuts in the overall cost of keeping an E Type. Go for it.

(There are other opinions -- Pirelli 205/70-15 P4000s are well liked by many on Jag-Lovers E Type list)

Mark,

Don't know the answer to your question, but there was just a thread on Jag-lovers E-type list about this (www.Jag-lovers.org). Browse the E-type list for recent threads, and you should find it, or search the E-type archieves for tires or tyres. I recall that several brands and experience with how they perform were discussed rather extensively.

Hope that helps.
