I just inherited a 1972 E Type. The car had been in shows (won once), but I do not intend to show it. It still has the original radio. I'd like to put in a modern sound system, but am concerned it will adversely affect resale value if I do. Is this the case? If so, any suggestions as to how I could, perhaps install a new system , store the old one and not scar the car in the process? Are there systems that do not need to be installed per se?

i was in that business, back in the 70's. there shouldn't be any need for cutting. the units at the time were much larger. you should be able to get a grommet or bezel to go around the new stereo, filling in the space making the stereo look "factory".

also, with a little research, you should be able to get a harness (mating to the radio connectors on the jag's wiring harness on one end, mating with the new stereo, on the other end). any good installer will fabricate this harness for you, rather than cut anything.

i just bought a '95 xjs convertible which is getting a new alpine system, with satellite radio, bluetooth, hd radio, cd, which is being installed today (certainly, this is a much easier install than an xke)

i would think this will be easier than you imagine, with a good installer.
