I'm replacing the tires on my 69 OTS. They currently have Vredestein 185 SR15 on wire wheels. I am considering red line tires, would these be more correct than the blackwall?

For tires manufactured before 2000, there is a three digit code. The first two numbers are the week of the year and the last is the year 1990-1999. In 2000, there is a 4 digit code, first two being the week and the last two being the year, 2000 would be 00 and on.

By the way, does anyone know how to read the date code on a tire? I've been getting conflicting information (go figure)

Tastes vary, of course, but I think whitewalls look great on a silver car.

Actually I should say "white stripe" not "whitewall". A very narrow white stripe...maybe 3/8" wide....just like the popular redline tires but white instead...looks very sahrp !

Cheers

Thanks for the info, I've seen pictures of etypes with white walls as well although I'm not sure they would look right on a silver car

Edward Dick is right but perhaps if you are thinking of the red line "M" tire they are the worst! But if you want to go "drifting' at almost any event where you change direction and apply the gas then "them" are your tires. They are really not suited for an E Type. The vreds are great but if you want "most" correct the orifinal Dunlops are still made for your car!

Redlines were never used on the XKE and count off on a concours. This is explained in more detail in the concours rule book available on the Concours link above.
