Hello all, I've posted a couple "want to buy ads" over the years, have received responses, and have thought that a couple of them may have been some sort of scam,,,, but I never replied and just dropped the whole thing. Well, I recently listed a want ad to buy a heater cable and received a reply from someone named Rodrick offering to sell me one for $700.00. I passed at that price. He told me to make an offer, which I did NOT do, but I told him I preferred to pass on it as I thought the small heater cable was only going to be around $35 or $40 (while not having any real idea what they would sell for, but realizing $700 was probably ridiculous). Anyway, Rodrick got back to me saying he would take $40.00.........!!! Really!!!! From $700 to $40....... So, it brings up this old concern of mine - are there scammers watching the want ads on this site, or am I just paranoid???????????? tks, ray

Hi fellows members

This is the latest scam I received

Michel

Dear sir,
I am an international business man that specializes in purchasing and selling of AUTOS.I also help my foreign client to ship their AUTOS to any place of their desired country or destination, most especially EUROPEAN and AMERICAN COUNTRIES,because i have a reputable and efficient shipper who takes care of the shipment,so shipping will not pose any problem.

Presently i have a client who has asked me to help him purchase a used jaguar. As i was browsing through the internet,i saw your advert subjected above and i will like to purchase it for my client, but before payment will be made i need to be sure of whom i will be dealing with if you are going to be honest and sincere throughout the transaction.

So to start with, signify your interest by forwarding to me your last price (THE PRICE YOU ARE WILLING TO SELL) through email, after which we can continue with the transaction and i promise if all conditions and agreement are accepted and reached on time, payment will be made out almost immediately.

Hoping to hear from you as soon as possible.

Respectfully,

MICHAEL-EDWARD.

Here is the latest scam on the selling site.

They found a way to use Paypal, so I contacted Paypal and advised them of the possible problem. They did not care that much. I ended up requesting a deposit from Chris Moore using my Paypal account and the request payment module without giving him any information. Never heard from him again

Cheers Michel

Raymond, I get them every time I list a Parts Wanted Ad.

I usually tell the obvious scammer that there email address appear on an FBI scammers list and I am obliged to forward their email to Interpol.

Scammer are easily spotted. They usually send a very brief email saying "I saw your advert for the specified part(s) you listed and have the part(s) you need, etc."

Most scammers are lazy butt heads with no job, sitting in an Internet cafe somewhere in a foreigh country, most likely in Nigeria. They are low life dirt bags.
